Livermore senior research scientist Aleksandr Noy has been named a 2025 fellow of the Materials Research Society for his contribution, dedication, and distinction in the advancement of materials research. He was recognized for his work in nanofluidics and transport under extreme confinement (see the highlight Curious Physics in the World’s Smallest Water Channels); single-molecule force spectroscopy; bionanoelectronics; and mentorship, society organization, and lecturing in the bioinspired materials community. Noy has published more than 120 peer-reviewed research papers with more than 20,000 citations, and he holds 10 patents.


Biogeochemist Jennifer Pett-Ridge will be recognized as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals. Pett-Ridge, a world expert in soil ecology, heads the Department of Energy Office of Science “Microbes Persist” Science Focus Area, and “Terraforming Soils” Energy Earthshot project. A Lawrence Livermore Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, she leads a team of more than 50 scientists in support of projects related to maintaining functions of soils critical to energy, water, and food security.
