Jennifer Pett-Ridge, Livermore scientist and head of the Laboratory’s Carbon Initiative, has been selected as a fellow of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) for her outstanding contributions to the field of soil ecology. In addition to her pioneering research combining community molecular biology with isotope-labeling techniques to study soil carbon persistence and sustainable bioenergy cropping systems, Pett-Ridge has mentored students, prepared science communications, and led the collaborative “Roads to Removal” report on U.S. carbon removal strategies.
Livermore postdoctoral researcher Sam Hedges received a 2024 Springer Thesis Award for his thesis, “Low Energy Neutrino-Nucleus Interactions at the Spallation Neutron Source.” His work discusses the development and analysis of neutrino detectors deployed at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as part of the COHERENT experiment, which enables the study of neutrino scattering at supernova energies and supports progress toward understanding the processes that generate the neutrinos.
