Livermore computer scientist Kenneth Weiss won a Technical Best Paper Award from the Association for Computing Machinery and was recognized at the association’s 2024 Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques conference. The paper, entitled “Robust Containment Queries Over Collections of Rational Parametric Curves via Generalized Winding Numbers,” presents an approach enabling multiple simulation runs to be set up over the same computational mesh.


Fusion Power Associates has awarded a 2024 Distinguished Career Award to Bruno Van Wonterghem, operations manager for the Laboratory’s National Ignition Facility (NIF). Van Wonterghem, who has worked at NIF since its planning stages, provides oversight of NIF safety, security, quality, and efficiency. He was recognized for decades of dedication to excellence at NIF facilities and Livermore’s Beamlet.
